Skills and Attributes:

Enjoy teaching and learning.

Enjoy employing a wide range of teaching and assessment methods, depending on the course, class size and student response.

Ability to make the courses I teach more meaningful by relating them to practical projects I and/or my students have done in the past and the projects I am currently involved in.

Ability to establish good student rapport with students from all ethnic groups and cultural backgrounds.

High level of patience with slow learners.

Experience:

Thirty-four years teaching in universities, polytechnics, schools and community colleges in Singapore , Australia , New Zealand and the USA.

Taught a wide range of courses, including AI, operating systems, software engineering, systems analysis and design, programming and engineering courses.

Supervised a number of final year projects.

My first master's student has recently completed his M.Comp. with a B.

Served in numerous committees and contributed to course and curriculum development up to the masters level.

Worked with specialists in other disciplines and/or students and published papers on the practical applications of AI and robots in engineering, horticulture, scheduling, catering, optimisation, music and healthcare.

Developed engineering laboratory experiments using strain gauges and computers, vibration transducers etc.

Built some interesting electronics projects.

Currently working on two large projects on the use of low-cost robots in a wide range of practical applications using AI techniquesthe and the automated composition of western classical music and Indian classical music.

Interests:

Practical applications of computers, robots and cutting edge technology.

Telerobotics, telemedicine and biomedical engineering.

Open source software and Linux.

Improving the way universities teach and assess students.

Improving the definition of university research and the way the research is recognised and funded.

Improving the way mathematics and science is taught in western countries.

Hobbies:

Music of all kinds and organising music concerts.

Badminton.

Used to play duplicate bridge winning many tournaments and representing the Northern Territory at the Australian National Congress.
